International Trade Institute

The International Trade Institute (ITI) was established to train trade specialists who are well versed in foreign languages and the practices of international trade. ITI offers a range of international business programs that vary in length from six months to two years. ITI also conducts on-the-job training seminars and workshops to help participants increase their knowledge and understanding of international trade, business language, and management principles.

 

Pre-Job Training

 

International Business Administration Program (IBAP)

 

The IBAP offers courses in 7 world languages: English, Japanese, German, Spanish, Vietnamese, Indonesian and Thai. Two types of IBAP programs are offered: a comprehensive two-year program and an intensive one-year program.
 
IBAP achievements and successes are numerous. The average score of the two-year English majors on the Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC) was about 880 (out of a top score of 990), which is significantly higher than average score of 613 for Taiwanese graduate students. In addition, the number of Japanese majors who passed the first level of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) was about 60%, as opposed to 30.8% for those who received their Japanese language training in Japan, and 31.6% for those who trained outside of Japan.

In 2019, about 714 different industries participated in the ITI job fair, offering over 3,000 job opportunities. Since the establishment of this program, ITI has trained a total of around 6,000 graduates: 70% of them have devoted themselves to the international marketing field, and have realized impressive achievements.
 
 

IBAP at the Newly-Established Taichung and Kaohsiung Branch


Following the success of the IBAP in Hsinchu, and as an affirmation from the industry of the high-quality students graduating from ITI, the Ministry of Economic Affairs extended the IBAP to Central and Southern Taiwan. In 2014, National Chung Hsing University was chosen to host additional IBAP. In 2016, the Southern IBAP was established at National Sun Yat-sen University. In the future, the Taichung and Kaohsiung Branch will develop its connections with local industries in the hopes of offering diversified job opportunities to its students.

 

International Trade Program (ITP)



Supplying an even balance of English language and trade courses, this full-time, six-month program is available to those who have or are pursuing their bachelors. The program offers 300 hours of business practices, and 400 hours of business English.
 

 

 

On-The-Job Training

 

 

International Marketing Program


Focusing on international trade and marketing, this part-time program runs for six months. About 40 students undergo a rigorous regiment with 200 hours of courses related to trade and marketing.

 

Short Courses


A large variety of trade-related courses, with durations of 6 to 36 hours, are taught under the auspices of ITI - Taipei. Offered in Chinese, over 20 different special trade topics are covered, including international trade, transit trade, international marketing, trade show marketing, international business negotiations, financial management, letters of credit, brand marketing, and English contract law. In addition to these courses, ITI also offers special language courses, including Spanish, Portuguese, Myanmar, Vietnamese, Indonesian and Thai language. New Southbound Talent Training Program



In order to train the New Southbound talents for business, TAITRA has offered two types of training programs: "professional long-term training" and "on-the-job training".

ITI offers a two-year Southeast Asian language program (Vietnamese, Indonesian, Thai) and a one-year Vietnamese language program. In these programs, students study a Southeast Asian language, and take courses in business English, marketing and international trade. The two-year trainees will go abroad for language and culture courses in the second year.  After graduation, they could help their companies to expand the new Southbound market.

In addition to the long-term programs, TAITRA offers on-the-job trainings to people who are interested in the New Southbound markets.  The “New Southbound Talent Training Program” covers culture, industrial economy and prospects, business and investment environment, and Taiwan business layout experience. The goal of these courses is to help Taiwan companies develop an understanding of the new Southbound market.

 

MICE Certification and Training Project

 

IIn recent years, governments around the world have been paying more and more attention to the MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions & Exhibitions) industry because of its high potential, value added, and innovative benefits. Its potential for creating employment and business opportunities is a powerful driving force for all related industries.
 
Sponsored by the Ministry of Economic Affairs, ITI has been responsible for the MICE Certification and Training Project since 2005. The project includes establishing the Certification System, giving the Professional Training Programs, setting up HR Data Bank, hosting MICE Destination Marketing Contest, and publishing online learning material. MICE Certification and Training Project provided 77 MICE training programs with 3,530 trainees in 2018. 

2019 CEM/CMP Awarding Ceremony and Gala Dinner


In 2012, TAITRA worked with the International Association of Exhibitions and Events and the Events Industry Council to institute the Certified in Exhibition Management (CEM), and Certified Meetings Professional (CMP) to raise the level of professionalism and knowledge of Taiwan’s MICE personnel, in addition to keeping Taiwan current with international MICE trends. Within 8 years, Taiwan now has 232 CEM and 44 CMP certified individuals. In 2017, TAITRA worked with the Society for incentive Travel Excellence to institute the Certified Incentive Specialist (CIS), Taiwan now has 75 CIS certified individuals. TAITRA has signed an MOU with IAEE to Introduce an advanced Training Program, Certified in Exhibition Management-Advanced Professional Program from IAEE.

 

Strategic Business Management Program

 
   

In order to cultivate the next generation of Taiwanese entrepreneurs and CEOs, TAITRA and Lahav (Lahav Executive Education of Coller School of Management, Tel-Aviv University) jointly organized the Strategic Business Management Program IV in September 2019. The aim of this program is to introduce the global and digital economy, along with the latest innovative business models and the future developmental trends of various technologies from a global perspective, to CEOs and senior executives from local enterprises.

Trainees from various industries around Taiwan first took classes in Israel at Lahav and, then, in Taipei over five weekends to complete the courses. Afterwards TAITRA arranged trade missions overseas according to the participants’ individual preference. The trainees visited local government departments and well-known enterprises. As a result of this program, Taiwanese enterprises not only made connections, but they also raised more market opportunities in these countries.
